Short: Copy files with long Win95 names to Amiga Author: lenger.wolfgang@computerhaus.at (Wolfgang Lenger) Uploader: lenger wolfgang computerhaus at (Wolfgang Lenger) Type: disk/misc Version: 1.03 (24/08/98) Architecture: m68k-amigaos ---- INTRODUCTION With Win95copy you can copy files from a MS-DOS formated disk to your Amiga, without loosing the long Windows95 filenames. REQUIREMENTS - You need at least Kick/WB 3.0. (CrossDOS File System) - A valid mfm.device mounted (e.g. PC0:) INSTALLATION There are two files named win95copy0, win95copy1. The number is meant for the device you have mounted as MS-DOS Drive. (e.g. device 0 for PC0: , 1 for PC1:) Just copy the one you need into a directory of your choice. ( I suggest C: ) USAGE Usage is very simple: win95copy [filename2 filename3 ...] TO example: win95copy PC0:LONGFI~1.EXE PC0:LONGFI~2.EXE TO RAM: Please use full pathnames and no Volume names (e.g. "RAM DISK") DOPUS USERS Create a new button and add the following "AmigaDOS" command: C:Win95copy {F} TO {d} and select the "rescan destination" option The {F} command passes a list of all selected files to win95copy. It works fine with DOpus 4 but due to a bug in DOpus 5+ this filelist gets truncated which causes that the destination path is wrong and so either the files get copied into a wrong directory or to Mr. Guru :-( In that case please use the {f} command instead and select "with all files" LIMITATIONS - Works only with 3,5" floppy drives (high or double density) - Can`t copy whole directories only single files (I`m using it in combination with DirectoryOpus4 where this limitation isn`t a problem) - No joker allowed. - Only files in the root directory are converted correctly yet. (Files with an extension less than 3 characters were not copied.) 1.03 New Syntax. You now can copy more than one filename at once which results in a significant speed imcreasement especially when copying lots of small files. Win95copy now indicates which file currently is processed. Added a short command description when entering ? as filename. ---- Bye, Wolfgang +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | __ __ __ __ | | / // / E-mail: lenger.wolfgang@computerhaus.at / // / | | / // / lenger.wolfgang@usa.net / // / | | __ __ / // / __ __ / // / | | \ \\ \/ // / A M I G A back for the future \ \\ \/ // / | | \ \\/ // / \ \\/ // / | | \_/_//_/ Amiga and the internet homepage \_/_//_/ finger| | http:// www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Vista/5141/ 4 PGP| +---------------------------------------------------------------------+
