The computer, sigh... After many hours of thought to replace my old XT, I decided to buy something that could run MS Windows 3, It was a 12 MHz '286 that contained true EMS, On a daughter board, 2MB, that I must confess. Well I got this tool set up with 640KB base, plus UMB, Shadowed the BIOS with some RAM, and the remainder as EMS you see, XMS ALSO, was a No No, as this daughter board could not support, But had sound, games, 25 pin serial(s) and also parallel port. It supported true EGA, up to 64 ~digital~ shades, 640 by 350 pixels, WOW like the colours of the everglades, Was backwards compatible to my old 'XT ~CGA~, A 40MB hard drive which was enormous for the day. It also had a special monitor to display those high-res' pic's, A three point five inch floppy drive to satisfy the upgrade dick's, That wanted to go modern with all the latest technology, But I also stuck with five and a quarter, and make no apology. It had a serial mouse and an eight bit stereo sound card too, A RESET and TURBO button, and ON/OFF switch to name but a few, It had sound inputs and sound outputs to satisfy most need, And a 102 key keyboard with a DIN plug as its feed. I proceeded with the install of my Windows version three, Which ran on top of DOS in REAL, or STANDARD Mode if XMS was free, Little did I know that my nice, bright, shiny new '286 tool, Would NOT do ENHANCED Mode for ~multitasking~, boy did I feel a fool. I already owned an A500 with 1MB total RAM, Much cheaper than my PC which made Windows look like a ham, The A500 could boot into a GUI, from floppy without a fuss, But trying to boot and run Windows without crashing made me cuss. Well I have upgraded my PC MANY times to keep up with the boys, And now have a mega-bloatware XP, with all that DRM and TCPA noise, To TRY and stop me doing those ~illegal~ things I want to do, I have now installed Linux, and run this OS too. Well it looks like XP SP2 is going to get the boot, For a new OS called ~Vista~ to bring MS loads of loot?, Not from me it won't as I have had my fill of system freeze, I am going back to my AMIGA which I can use with total ease. I am no longer in the rat-race to upgrade every other day, An OS or faster hardware just because other people say, You won't be able to do this or that on your existing PC setup, So I'll stick with my 12 year old A1200 which has never ever let up. My A1200 is used daily for the normal Internet stuff, This poem written in YAM which is more than good enough, IBrowse, Miami are used or my normal WWW, NET cruise, FTPMount for my FTP client is also what I use. So its goodbye to the ever spiralling and costly changing Windows PC, Being dictated to by mega-corporations is now, not for me, I've decided to go simple, (and not worry about spyware and as such), And stick with my AMIGA which is the tool I love so much....
